Summertime in Portland is crazy full of bike fun. Personally, I have spent this past weekend at Dodge Park with Kidical Mass PDX‘s annual Bike Camping trip, and the weekend before that I got to race in the Disaster Relief Trials.
Before that was June, Pedalpalooza, three-and-a-half-weeks of bike adventures big and small. I feel so lucky to get to be a part of these different-but-connected bike communities, and grateful-but-exhausted for my full weekends and seemingly endless set of things-to-do.
Which brings me to the matter at hand: the Fiets of Parenthood. The Fiets of Parenthood is the brainchild of Julian Davies, who is in my pantheon of family cycling inspirations and blogger at Totcycle, pitched the idea back in 2009. It became a reality in 2010, first in Portland, hosted by Clever Cycles, and then in Seattle a few months later. And it has continued in Portland each year since, and in Seattle sometimes, too!
I don’t know about the Seattle crew’s planning process, but around here, it has always been on the side of the last-minute team-effort-thrown-together amazing-unlikely-success.
In that spirit, this page is going up today, two weeks before the event. And I appeal to you, our wonderful community, to make it a success. Spread the word! Tweet about us (@parent_fiets), share our facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/491616760926789/), tell your friends when you talk to them in person (you still do that, right?), and most of all: COME!
